Senior Network Communications Officer

A savvy communicator who will help us to inspire, mobilize, and champion grassroots justice practitioners around the world. 

Namati is advancing social and environmental justice by building a movement of people who know, use, and shape the law. The Legal Empowerment Network, which Namati convenes, is vital to this mission.  As we continue to scale this global community, we’re searching for a Senior Communications Officer to help us foster participation, learning, and unity, and to showcase how members are using legal empowerment to advance justice around the world.    

Recently, we developed a distinct brand for the Legal Empowerment Network and are in the process of developing a website and social media channels, separate from Namati’s. The Network Senior Communications Officer will be responsible for managing these platforms and creating content that will inspire, mobilize, elevate, and champion Network members.  

To be effective, this messaging must not only reach our audiences, but resonate with them. The materials the Officer produces must be clear, visually and linguistically compelling, and framed to address the needs and interests of our diverse community, all while staying true to the Network’s emerging brand identity. 

This remote position will work closely with the Network and Communications teams across multiple time zones. The person hired for this role will be asked to schedule ~2 days per week of evening work time to allow for global team communication and collaboration. 

Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Senior Network Communications Officer will hold the following primary responsibilities:

Content development (40%)

  • Regularly liaise with the network team, explore the discussion forum, review existing raw materials, and proactively stay informed of core members’ activities to find inspiring stories, programmatic successes, and on-the-ground learnings to share with the global Network
  • Conduct phone/Skype interviews, do online research, hold video interviews, and find or create photography for use in communications  
  • Produce compelling blogs, member spotlights and stories, Q&As, and other written assets 
  • Conceive and collaborate on the production of short videos, audio segments, infographics, and other creative outputs

Social media management (30%)

  • Source, create, and post compelling, platform-specific social media copy and content 
  • Develop and maintain a detailed content calendar and library to allow our global staff easy access to communications plans and assets
  • Respond to messages, comments, and requests from social media users  
  • Create and maintain Twitter lists of strategic audiences and hashtags to follow for engagement, amplification, and content sourcing purposes 
  • Develop and implement social media campaigns to promote key network events and activities 
  • Stay up-to-date on best practices, trends, and tools with the aim of constantly improving reach and engagement 
  • Track performance metrics for all platforms, evaluate the data in partnership with the communications director, and subsequently adjust tactics as needed

Website management (20%)

  • Draft and edit copy for new pages, announcements, and event summaries
  • Develop engaging web pages by sourcing dynamic photos, selecting design elements from an existing UI Kit, and arranging them in a visually-compelling and brand-consistent manner 
  • Publish new content, adding strategic linkages between pages, posts, and resources that will encourage users’ deeper exploration of the site 
  • Systematically review site content to ensure it is fresh, up-to-date, and accurate, and provides a positive user experience
  • Track and report on website performance metrics via Google Analytics with the primary goal of identifying what content is more useful and popular with our audience

Information management (10%)

  • Monitor, clean-up, and maintain subscriber information and list segmentation in MailChimp, Namati’s email marketing platform
  • Ensure the timely uploading and accurate captioning and tagging of all Network photos in the website media library and digital asset management system


Here’s what you might have tackled in the last month in this role-

  • Created a webpage for the announcement of the COVID-19 Grassroots Justice Fund including compelling copy and an appealing layout
  • Developed a social media plan to maximize buzz around the launch of the COVID-19 Grassroots Justice Fund, including developing tactics, identifying influencers, and crafting messaging that resonates with target audiences
  • Interviewed a network member from Malawi who has implemented a work plan that they developed at the Legal Empowerment Leadership Course. Subsequently wrote a blog about their experience and efforts
  • Tagged and categorized photos from a learning exchange in Guatemala which were recently uploaded to the digital asset management system by a Network colleague.  
  • Worked with the Digital Communications Officer on the production of a 90-second video of Network members sharing their experiences adopting a legal empowerment approach in their advocacy
  • Planned and developed social media posts for the week ahead, taking into consideration any relevant international awareness days. Created eye-catching social media graphics in Canva, using brand guidelines and existing templates, to accompany the text.   


About you/must-haves for the position

  • Track record of excellence in communications: You understand the need and have the skills to identify content, develop messaging, and leverage creative formats that resonate with your target audience. You excel at shaping technical or lackluster raw material into compelling communications outputs. You likely have 3-5 years of experience in professional communications. 
  • Skilled and versatile writer: You believe in the power of language to inspire and mobilize. Your writing is simple, accessible, and engaging. You can find a compelling story in any event or interaction. 
  • Social media savvy: You can manage Facebook Pages, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn with ease and understand how to best utilize social media management tools like TweetDeck and You have a knack for writing clear, compelling posts that spark engagement. 
  • An eye for clean, impactful design: You have a good design aesthetic and are picky about things like inconsistent spacing and formatting. Photo editing, video editing, and/or graphic design skills are a significant plus. Experience with Canva and/or Lumen5 would be helpful. 
  • Efficient and skilled process management: You work quickly and efficiently and can churn out excellent, on-point work products by deadline. You manage collaborative processes confidently; you know how to work with input from a variety of stakeholders while maintaining control, scope, and timeliness. 
  • Independent worker with a strong sense of initiative You feel comfortable working with limited oversight and direction, possessing the insight to identify what needs to be done and the initiative to make it happen. You execute on tasks, improve processes, and solve problems without continuous prompting. 



Preference for candidates based in New Delhi, India. However, candidates across India are open to apply. Please note that you must already be legally authorized to work in India to be considered for this role. 



This position will be structured as a full-time consultant of Namati, Inc. Namati offers competitive compensation in all locales where we operate. Final compensation will be commensurate with experience.
